Local family man and business owner Charles West has reportedly lost his life savings, including investments, after landing on “Bankrupt” during a recent appearance on Wheel of Fortune.
“I didn’t know it worked like that!” exclaimed West, shortly after the taping when he was asked to sign the paperwork indicating the liquidation of all of his assets, due to landing on the “Bankrupt” space during the game’s second round. “They took my debit card, stocks, my 401k, my kid’s college funds. I don’t have anything to my name except the trip to Hawaii I won in the third round. What am I going to do?”
Fans explained that while harsh, the outcome is part of long-running game show’s enduring appeal.
“If he didn’t know it worked like that, that’s on him,” said Wanda Gardner, a longtime Wheel of Fortune fan. “Millions of us tune in because you can see someone win a car or a small fortune, or just as easily lose every dime they’ve ever made because of a cruel turn of the wheel. There’s really nothing else like it on television. Sorry about your luck, dude.”
As of press time, West had incurred more debt after going on Jeopardy! and finishing with a negative balance.
